Chamber Music

APPLAUSE!

The University of Victoria Saxophone Studio benefits greatly from contributions offered by talented and hard working students from all studios in the School of Music, most notably piano students from the classes of Arthur Rowe, Bruce Vogt, May Ling Kwok and Eva Solar-Kinderman.

Saxophone students and their partners in performance are provided many opportunities for collaboration, including: the Annual Saxophone Class Recital; Saxophone Ensemble Recital; weekly noon hour concerts; graduating and junior shared and solo recitals; performance lab class; and the Piano Collaborative Class.

Guided by the recommendations and requirements set forth in the Saxophone Handbook, students select in consultation with the Instructor in early February repertoire for the term commencing in September.
  • Prior to submitting their draft list to the Instructor, students are first required to vet their selections by listening to recordings and analyzing videos.
  • Repertoire may be chosen from among those listed or any compositions of equal quality appropriate to the level of study.
  • Students must select repertoire from specified periods and genres:
  • Early period: 19th Century. E.g., Singelée, Mayeur.
  • American and European concert music. E.g., Dubois, Glazounov, Desenclos, Pascal, Sauguet, Chang, Heiden, Bonneau, Ibert, Maurice, Milhaud, Muczynski, Benson, C.T. Smith.
  • Music "of" the saxophone. Late 20th Century & New Millennium. E.g., Lauba, Robert, Noda, Cockroft, Berio, Lennon, Bolcom, Yoshimatsu.
