Sobremesa Quartet Tour begins!
Last evening, to an enthusiastic crowd at the Phillip T. Young Recital Hall, the Quartet gave outstanding performances of a wide variety of compositions that included an arrangement of Dvorak's American Quartet by sopranist Connor Stairs.
The concert included works by: Maslanka (Mountain Roads); Dubois (Quatuor); Bach (Little Fugue); Piazzolla (Milonga del Ángel); Dvorak (American) and Ishige (Three Short Tales of the Sea). The deft handling of the Maslanka, and the exciting and informed performances of the other works, proves this emergent ensemble is well worth the attention of discerning audiences. Chamber music enthusiasts will be delighted by the energy and conviction demonstrated by the group.
Altoist Matt Fichter introduced the group and compositions, and included an acknowledgement of the First Peoples on whose historical lands the University of Victoria is located. He also introduced the audience to the group's philosophy of interconnectedness, and drew a connection between the group's repertoire and local First People's sense of interconnectedness.
The group continues their tour on the BC Lower Mainland today through Sunday.
